Diagnostic radiology for sport horses

Equine radiology remains one of the most important diagnostic imaging techniques in equine veterinary medicine, particularly for the evaluation of bone and hard tissue structures.
Although it is one of the oldest imaging modalities, radiography continues to play a key role in orthopedic and trauma diagnosis, allowing clinicians to reach reliable conclusions based on clear, static, and unequivocal images.

Ongoing technological advancements have led to the development of direct digital radiography, providing exceptional image quality while significantly improving operator safety, thanks to markedly reduced X-ray exposure times.

Advanced equine radiology equipment

L’Equine Practice equine clinic is equipped with a high-powered fixed radiographic system, enabling detailed radiographic examinations of challenging anatomical regions in adult horses, including:

  • the cervical spine
  • the thorax
  • the pelvis

The clinic operates exclusively with direct digital radiography systems, for a total of three units, one of which features a large-format flat panel detector, specifically designed to optimize spinal examinations and produce high-resolution diagnostic images.

Diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making

The availability of high-quality radiographs allows for accurate diagnosis of well-characterized orthopedic conditions, where image quality is essential for correct interpretation.
This results in:

  • improved diagnostic accuracy
  • better-informed therapeutic decisions
  • optimized recovery timelines for sport horses
